Dry eye symptoms can include, but are not limited to; burning, irritation, redness, watery eyes, blurred and variable vision, gritty or dry sensation, crusts on your eyelids or itchy eyelids. Left untreated, dry eye can progressively get worse and more difficult to treat, cause discomfort and affect your quality of life.
Dry eye can be caused by factors such as hormonal changes, autoimmune conditions (like Sjögren’s syndrome), prolonged screen use, certain medications, and environmental factors like wind or air conditioning amongst other things. See our What is dry eye? page for further explanation.
If you experience persistent discomfort, fluctuating vision, or a gritty sensation in your eyes, you may have dry eye. A professional diagnostic evaluation is the best way to determine the cause and severity of your symptoms. Contact us and we will fill in a short triage form for our specialist optometrists to review. If they need more information this may result in a telephone consult. They will advise on the best type of diagnostics appointment to book.

Most procedures, like IRPL or ZEST, take between 20–45 minutes, however all treatment appointments allow 1 hour with your optometrists to allow time for questions and a thorough consultation.
Punctal plugs are small devices inserted into your tear ducts to prevent tear drainage. The ones we supply are annually replaced.
Our clinic is in The Optical People optometry practice on 6 St. Mary Street, Chepstow. It is a pedestrianised street with the closest parking being at Nelsons Street Car Park. You can book an appointment via phone (01291 622269), email (dr*********@th**************.uk) , in person or using the contact us form on our website. We will ask you to fill in a Dry Eye Wales triage form and from there we will recommend the most ideal diagnostic appointment for your symptoms.
Although a referral is unnecessary, as you can contact us directly to schedule a consultation, there are times where a referral is useful. If you have previously been seen by an optometrist and previous treatments have not been able to address your symptoms then a referral from your practitioner with information on duration, a description of your condition, and details of treatments previously tried is absolutely valued and can be uploaded by your optometrist to our website or emailed to dr*********@th**************.uk.
